100 Things To Do This Summer

Creating a Summer Bucket List That Sparks Joy, Creativity, & Connection for a Magical Childhood Experience

Why Summer Sometimes Feels Overwhelming:
Let’s be honest—summer break sounds dreamy, but it can also sneak up and feel a bit overwhelming. The kids are out of school, the structure disappears, and suddenly you’re trying to fill days without emptying your wallet.

Suddenly we’re expected to become camp counselors, short-order cooks, entertainment directors, and referees… all before noon. There’s this unspoken pressure to make every moment magical, to fill the days with Pinterest-worthy activities, and somehow also keep the house clean, the fridge stocked, and the sibling squabbles to a minimum. That’s a tall order, especially when you’re already stretched thin.

But what if we reframed it?

What if instead of seeing summer as a mountain to climb, we saw it as a field to explore? A season not to survive, but to savor—one slow, messy, joy-filled day at a time.

You don’t need big plans to make a big impact. The beauty of summer is that it gives us the opportunity to return to the basics: creativity, curiosity, connection. It invites us to slow down, listen more, say yes to the silly things, and reconnect with the people right in front of us. It allows us to find and reconnect with our inner child as well.

If you’re anything like us, the dream of a beach vacation or a Disney adventure is lovely… but not in the cards right now. And that’s okay. Because here’s the thing: some of the most magical moments of childhood aren’t found on a plane or in a resort—they’re made in our backyards, kitchens, and pajamas.

This summer, let’s let go of the pressure to do it all perfectly—and instead, focus on doing what matters with love and intention. You’re not falling behind. You’re building something beautiful—one simple, sacred summer memory at a time.

A Favorite Family Tradition:
Every season, our family sits down together and creates a bucket list—a collection of dreams, to-dos, and tiny adventures we want to tackle. It’s not about doing it all, it’s about doing things together.

As of today, I’m officially on summer break (cue the confetti and the kids shouting “Mom’s home!”), and we’ve already kicked off our seasonal tradition by brainstorming what this summer could look like. Let me just say: my kids did not disappoint.

So whether you’re a list-maker like me, or just need some ideas to break up the “I’m bored” chorus, I’ve got something for you…

100 Ideas to Make This Summer Memorable
Yes, 100! I compiled this mega list of free, cheap, and joy-filled ideas that can make this summer memorable without maxing out your bank account.

You’ll find everything from messy art projects to outdoor adventures, water play to quiet moments—because summer should be about more than keeping kids busy. It’s about creating one magical moment a day that shapes their childhood and reminds us all to slow down and savor it.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it—one of the most powerful ways we can heal our inner child is by playing with our own kids. There’s something incredibly redemptive about kneeling down in the grass, letting go of adult worries for a moment, and stepping into their world of wonder. When we build sandcastles, chase bubbles, or join in silly backyard games, we’re not just making memories—we’re mending pieces of ourselves that didn’t get to play freely the first time around. It’s in those playful, giggle-filled moments that healing happens quietly. And maybe that’s the real magic of childhood—it gives us a second chance to experience the joy we always deserved.

Here are a few of our family’s favorite ideas to get you started:

  • Make s’mores on the deck or in the microwave
  • Paint kindness rocks and hide them at the park
  • Host a backyard or living room campout (flashlights required!)
  • Make sock or shadow puppets
  • Jump in puddles after a summer storm or run out and dance in the rain
  • Draw shaving cream on the kitchen table. (we also practice spelling and writing our letters)
  • Kitchen dance parties to our favorite songs
  • Make a summer journal to write in each week
  • Build a fairy garden or bug hotel out of recycled materials.

As a fun bonus, I’ve included a blank summer bucket list template for you and your family to fill out with your own must-do adventures—personalize it with the moments you’re most excited to experience together this season!

T – Takeaway:
Here’s the truth: you don’t need a plane ticket to make memories. You don’t need a giant budget or Pinterest-perfect plans. You just need intention, curiosity, and a willingness to slow down and play.

Childhood is short. And we’re not in a rush over here for our kids to grown up any faster than they need to.

So let’s fill this summer with sidewalk chalk, hose water, butterfly chasing, and belly laughs. Let’s teach our kids that magic isn’t something you buy—it’s something you make together.

Here’s to a summer full of joy, color, and connection.
☀️ Now let’s get out there and check something off that list!

Thank you for taking the time to read my words. I'm so glad your here.
